Massimiliano Mordenti sets first UIM long-distance record in aquabike

Monaco, 15 September 2025 – Mr Massimiliano Mordenti, member of the Yacht Club de Monaco and licensed by the Fédération Monégasque Motonautique (FMM), set the first long-distance record (coastal strip) with his aquabike.

The start was given off the coast of Monaco, opposite the Monegasque heliport, at 1:15 p.m. At the controls of his Kawasaki ULTRA 160 LX jet ski, Mr Mordenti travelled from Monaco to Gallinara Island and back to Monaco, covering 152 km. Despite sea conditions that were more difficult than expected, he completed the round trip in 3 hours, 23 minutes and 19 seconds, with refuelling at sea carried out in an environmentally safe manner.

The attempt was coordinated by the FMM, via its FMM aquabike commission, to ensure compliance with UIM regulations and Monegasque federal specifications, including safety, environmental protection and official timekeeping.

In an environmentally friendly approach, the jet ski was fuelled with E85 biofuel. The FMM supervised the refuelling at sea, using a unique, completely leak-proof method of filling directly onto the tank cap, preventing any risk of backflow or spillage into the sea.

The FMM assisted the pilot from start to finish, ensuring official validation of the record by the UIM, in particular compliance with the registered route, the regulated 300-metre coastal strip, and the mandatory 2-nautical-mile zone for VNMs in which they can operate in accordance with maritime rules.

The Federation praised the determination and endurance of its member, who has set a benchmark time for the discipline and laid the foundations for future record attempts on this course.
